 50th Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show 2003

The Recreation Ground, Fountain Lane, Soham from 9.30am until 5.00pm
Heavy Horse Show from 9.30am until 12.30pm.
The Carnival Parade of decorated vehicles, marching bands and majorettes will start at Townsend at 1.00pm
The Parade will then enter the Recreation Ground at about 1.30pm for judging.

The star attractions of the day will be the Kangaroo Kid from Australia performing stunts on his Quad Bike, The Merxmen Marching Band and a special guest appearance by Richard Spendlove. There will also be a Flying Display by Birds of Prey, Children’s Sports Races, Punch & Judy, Magician, Brass Band, Kids Karts, Bygones, Live Music & DJ's  and a huge  assortment of Stalls by local organisations, Sideshows and Refreshments, There is also a Classic Car Show including Vintage Tractors and Motorbikes and performances from Soham Fenlander Majorette Troupe and the Devil's Dyke Morris Men plus much, much more.

Proceeds were donated to East Anglia’s Children's Hospices in memory of Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman.


 Carnival Cash Benefits Many People

Soham Benevolent Association presenting a cheque for £4,000 to the East Anglia Children’s Hospice with representatives from other local groups who recieved money from funds raised from the 50th Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show 2003.

The success of the 50th Soham Carnival & Heavy Horse Show 2003 made local charity and youth organisations very happy indeed. The event raised a record-breaking £4,750 and cheques were presented to nine local organisations by the carnival organisers, the Soham Benevolent Association,  at a special presentation evening held at Soham Fire Station, Fountain Lane on Tuesday 15th July 2003. The association presented the East Anglia Children’s Hospice with £4,000 in memory of murdered Soham schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman. Other recipients were the St. John Ambulance Soham Combined Division, 1220 (March) Squadron ATC Marching Band, Soham Fenlander Majorette Troupe, Soham Holiday Playscheme, Soham Association of Commerce & Trade Christmas Light Fund, Soham Scouts, Soham Guides  and the East Cambridgeshire link of the Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline. Yvonne Bedford, secretary of the Soham Benevolent Association, said: ‘The Carnival was very well attended this year and a good day for the whole community of Soham. We are very pleased with the amount of money raised and the worthwhile local causes that have benefited from it. We would really like to thank our sponsors and all who helped in any way to make the day such a success especially as it was the 50th Anniversary of the event.”
